After an extensive tendering process, McMahons were selected to undertake the redevelopment of Kardinia Park named Simonds Stadium, formally Skilled Stadium.

As part of a multi-milliondollar  redevelopment of the facility, works were undertaken to upgrade and transform the AFL standard playing surface including start of the art drainage and irrigation systems

A 100mm layer of gravel, 8000m3 of sand and four kilometres of drainage pipes forms the base of the turf with a winter green couch grass overgrown with rye.

Located 75 kilometres south-west of Melbourne but only a kilometre from the Geelong city centre, Kardinia Park is a modern stadium but one which still gives fans an old-fashioned footy experience with its relaxed atmosphere and standing room terraces.

Kardinia Park is one of the largest and most prestigious venues in Victoria and is one of three venues within the state to host AFL premiership matches and the only one outside of Melbourne.

Queen Elizabeth Oval(QEO)

 Bendigo, VICTORIA

The $2.2M redevelopment of Bendigo’s premier sporting oval officially opened on Saturday June 11 2011

Works undertaken as part of the project included the removal of 15,000 cubic meters of soil, reshaping of the oval, drainage works, installation of an irrigation system and a concrete slab to support three turf cricket pitches.

The project extended to installing new shelters for players and officials at the front of the historic grand strand and constructing concrete spectator terracing which seat approximately 400 people

During the works phase of the project we experienced one of the wettest summers for some time and a cooler than average autumn.  However despite the weather this project was still delivered on time.

McMahons in conjunction with its strategic partners Limonta Sports and Greenplay Australia have succesfully transitioned Ringwood City Soccer Club to join the likes of world-famous clubs AC Milan, Inter Milan and AJAX, which all play on the Italian-made Limonta Sport turf.

The design for the reconstruction of the Ringwood soccer multi-purpose pavilion has taken into consideration the retention and protection of native trees where practicable, however the works will require the removal of some vegetation

The state of the art designed new lighting system was installed as part of the works with the floodlights on four tapered poles, with baffles to direct light onto the pitch surface, will eliminate light spill and glare into the surrounding residential areas.

TheMelbourneGolfAcademy was constructed as a state of the art facility with a short game area and a large 3000m2 putting green.

Before construction commenced the topsoil was stripped and stockpiled (7000m3) then clean fill (16000m3) was imported and shaped to the new design levels.  Irrigation and subsurface drains were installed and a target green constructed.

McMahons undertook construction of all these phases in a truly turn key operation.

The centrepiece of the Sydney 2000 Olympics was StadiumAustralia.

The construction was undertaken by McMahons and together with StrathAyr Pty Ltd, a netlon sand profile design was installed.  Once again the design of the surface called for our specialised three dimensional laser leveling equipment.  Design tolerances of 0+10mm on complex contours was required and that is what was achieved.

Completed in July 2009, this sporting oval is the centre piece for all sporting activity within this newly created residential development.

Key to this project was the integration of all facets of this recreation area.

Covering an area of 44,500 sq meters, purpose built shelters and walking paths are surrounded by garden beds and street scapes. The irrigation of these garden beds and the sporting oval are supported by an on site, purpose built 120,000 litre water tank utilising recycled water.

Darebin Bowling Club

Darebin. VICTORIA

The Centre is one of the most important sporting precincts inVictoria and hosted the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Lawn Bowls Competition and the Asia Pacific Games.

Limited timeframe was available to complete the reconstruction of the four greens to allow sufficient time for the grow-in phase before the first tournament in early November of that year. Attention to detail and strong project management disciplines were critical in delivering a successful project outcome.
