Manuka Oval is the premier Canberra venue for AFL and Cricket in the ACT. The ACT Government has made significant investment in upgrading the facility to ensure its future.
Completed in 2013, the general scope of the works for Manuka Oval redevelopment included:
The scope of works for this project was extensive and in partnership with Evergreen Turf, the outcome has been positively endorsed by all associated with the oval. In summary the following specific works were undertaken:
Kardinia Park
After an extensive tendering process, McMahons were selected to undertake the redevelopment of Kardinia Park named Simonds Stadium, formally Skilled Stadium.
As part of a multi-milliondollar redevelopment of the facility, works were undertaken to upgrade and transform the AFL standard playing surface including start of the art drainage and irrigation systems
The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport announced on 18 November 2011 his approval of the Major Development Plan (MDP) for the construction of Essendon Football Club’s training and community facility at Tullamarine.
McMahons were appointed Principal contractor to undertake all works for the site from initial bulk earthworks and installation of all infrastructure services through to final grassing of the playing fields including irrigation and grow in maintenance.

June 11 2011
Works undertaken as part of the project included the removal of 15,000 cubic meters of soil, reshaping of the oval, drainage works, installation of an irrigation system and a concrete slab to support three turf cricket pitches.
The project extended to installing new shelters for players and officials at the front of the historic grand strand and constructing concrete spectator terracing which seat approximately 400 people
During the works phase of the project we experienced one of the wettest summers for some time and a cooler than average autumn. However despite the weather this project was still delivered on time.
Leichardt, NSW
In 2012 a commitment of $2.2 million was made by the NSW government towards the
upgrade of Lambert Park in Leichhardt, NSW.
Mr O’Farrell stated the $2.2 million to Lambert Park will go towards securing its long term future as the home of Football in the Inner West and its role in developing the next generation of Socceroos.
The historic venue has been the home ground of NSW Premier League side APIA Leichhardt Tigers Football Club since 1954.

The charter for McMahons was simple as Principal Contractor to ensure" The boutique Lambert Park will go through a transformation with the upgrade and will be propelled as the leading football complex in Australasia and ‘Centre of Excellence’ for football with the ‘Bestin Class’ synthetic playing surface on offering and new footballing complex".
The works undertaken saw the design and construction of a FIFA 2 STAR soccer field including
setting out and establishing the site in preparation for construction. All earthworks, drainage, irrigation and base works to support the laying of the synthetic surface.
Construction on the new sports field has completed, with the field being shifted to the east to allow for the construction of the proposed sports pavilion on the western side of the park at a later date.
The works required at H A Smith Reserve, corner Glenferrie Road and Gardiner Road, Hawthorn included the following generalised items of work:
